
Mud Festival of Goa
Every year on the twelfth day of the fourth month of Ashadh in the Hindu calendar, the "Chikal Kalo" festival is celebrated which is unique to the village of Marcel, in Ponda taluka int eh state of Goa, India. Dedicated to Lord Krishna who loved to play with his friends in Vrindavan during his childhood. The whole scene takes place in front of the Devaki-Krishna temple.
Villagers, from toddlers to elders first apply oil on their bodies and wearing only their lower garments they enter the open ground in front of the temple to play in the muddy waters.
Participants in the whole Chikhal Kalo play games while devotional songs are played and chants sung by the villagers.
